SD?

Might head down to SD in a couple weeks. It's not for sure yet but for those who live there or who've been there:

- what are the must see attractions?
- what's the best area to stay? (I see coastal, old town, downtown and some other areas I'm not familiar with)
- where do locals hang out and eat?
- any good clubs or lounges for house music?

When I was there not too long ago, we stayed at the Marriott on the water. It was beautiful - our room was nice, it had a great pool, lots of places within walking distance, etc. I spent a day wandering around Balboa Park (where the SD zoo is) and also a day on Coronado Island. I thought both were must-see "touristy" things. We went out at night, but for the life of me, I can't recall the names of the bars we went to. (I think that means I was having a little too much fun!)

I hope you have a great time! SD's an awesome city.

- Attractions: As Melissa said, Balboa Park and Coronado are both interesting. Seaport Village can be kinda cool too. If you're more into the ritzy/upscale side of things, check out the La Jolla Cove. The Zoo and Sea World get lots of hype (maybe i'm jaded having lived here most of my life), but I prefer the Wild Animal Park if you want to see animals, although its out of the way and possibly hellish this time of year temperature-wise.

- Places to stay? Depends what you want really :) Downtown would be right in the thick of things - Petco park for a baseball game, lots of nightclubs, lots of places to eat. Hillcrest is probably the closest thing we have to San Fran (it's our gay district) - IMO, the best food in the area, a more laid back atmosphere than downtown, but outside of gay clubs, no place to boogie down. Pacific Beach is a typical beach town - a lot of bars, the beach, and cheap food. La Jolla cove is basically our Beverly Hills, with a beach (La Jolla Shores).

- I think the best concentration of good food in SD is in Hillcrest, but some make a good argument for downtown, depending on if you want to go slightly more upscale or not.
- I'm ignorant on clubs really :/ Most of them are in Pacific Beach (PB) or Downtown though.

The good news is that everything is relatively close - Hillcrest and Downtown are 5 or 10 minutes away from each other, and PB is 15-20 minutes north of them. La Jolla is another 15 mins or so north of PB.

Dunno if that helped or not, but lemme know if you have any more questions :)
