teaching philosophy

My final assignment for my pedagogy class is to write a teaching philosophy. What I value in teaching and how that affects (or rather will affect) my teaching style. I've been thinking about it on and off and I've realized this is almost as hard as writing a statement of purpose for university admissions.

I had to write my teaching philosophy just before I graduated from undergrad (I was in Michigan State University's teaching program, getting my BA and my secondary ed teaching certificate). And, you're right. It's tough. Very tough. I hated every moment of it. It was almost like writing a letter of recommendation for yourself (which I'm doing now - when did it become customary for people to have YOU write the letter of recommendation for YOURSELF, and then they sign their name to it???).
