ticket
So I've been carpooling to work with Simon the last while which means my car stays parked out on the street for days, sometimes up to a week. So on Friday I had to drive my car to work. When I got to my car there was a HUGE orange sticker on my rear passenger window that says my car will be towed if not moved, and there was a parking ticket on my windshield. Bastards in the house I parked in front of must've called the cops for parking more than 72 hours. That's what the ticket says anyways. It's a god damn public street with no parking restrictions. Get a life you assholes! The ticket is for only $25 but nowhere is it posted that you cannot park for more than 3 days. I'm trying to figure out a way to appeal this now. Unfortunately there's not a lot of advice online for violations in the teeny tiny town, I mean city, of Foster City. Dammit.

I had the same thing happen to me when I left my car at a friends house when I flew to the bay area actually :) I didn't try to fight it since it was apparently some law I was supposed to know about - "Ignorance of the law is not an excuse for not abiding by the law!", kept ringing through my head. I wanted to punch someone square in the sternum :P
Hopefully if you do fight they'll take pity on you since you're canadian :D
I'm sure you can appeal it. The parking laws may be governed by the County of San Mateo so you might find more searching through the county sites. Here are a few links for Foster City specifically if you haven't already found these.

I know you can appeal it. I think it says so on the ticket, however, you have to do so within 21 days. There's not charge for the first step, but if they make you take it to the next step, you'll have to pay the $25 first then try to get reimbursed. I used to park on the street all the time and if I leave and return before all the neighbourhood cars I tend to get the same spot. So do the neighbours. That's probably why your neighbours snitched on you. You must've taken someone's usual spot. That's a tip for your appeal, you do move, just return to the same spot.
