week

Has it only been a week since I came back from Thanksgiving? Not even. I got back Sunday. What took this week so damn long to pass. I am looking forward to going for drinks with my cohort tomorrow to plan the "entertainment" for our department holiday as is the tradition. Yes the students who have been a part of the department for 10 weeks are in charge of putting on some sort of funny skit/show/entertainment for everyone else. I think what's supposed to be funny is just seeing what we can come up with seeing as we know barely a handful of the faculty and have just learned our way around the campus. Any ideas for work appropriate performances?

The last one I was part of was a dance routine at the Seagate Software Holiday party in 1998 which we did to the music from the Full Monty. It involved stripping down to shorts in a rather provocative way. All I know is I was so intoxicated that I almost for forgot the dance routine and my equally intoxicated friend took a bottle of wine "to go" when we left the party for a club. Incidentally the club bouncers did not let us in because we spilled out of the taxi visibly drunk. "uh uh, no way," he said. Actually was the wine stolen from the party or from the restaurant we ended up at... I dont remember.

From what I'm still able to remember, we started drinking wine non-stop for about half-an-hour on an empty stomach because of a silly time limit on the open bar. After the free-for-all stopped, I think I noticed a neatly stacked pyramid of Heinekens on the way out of the party. I took a few and we downed them on the way to the club.

After stumbling out of the taxi I think I still had one unopened can in my hand. Noticing this, the bouncer politely informed me that we couldn't take it into the club. At this point my natural instinct took over. I popped the can open, chugged the contents, and threw the can on the ground. Words were exchanged, and we decided not to go to the club....

Either you have a good memory or I was more wasted than I realize. I do not recall any of those details.

OK but I know for sure that "decided not to go" is inaccurate or you are saying that tongue in cheeck. That decision was certainly made for us :)

Throwing the can on the ground. Nice touch hahaha

for halloween last year we joked about dressing as various professors. this year one of the students had a costume influenced by Anzaldua's Borderlands: she was a nun above the shoulders, a mother from neck to waist, and a whore below the waist. (I don't remember this part of Borderlands but I get what she was doing.)

i didn't go to the halloween party but i heard others dressed as field celebrities. and i also heard of a halloween party that was "come as your favorite theory."

(i realize these are costume ideas and not skit ideas but maybe they will inspire. oh, one person in our dept always said we should have a "parade of scholars" so we would know who various celebrities in the field were when we met them. and last night we were joking about having a dept America's Next Top Model. again, not exactly sure how this will help...)

hrm... you could do it in the form of a powerpoint... maybe a really bad one...
