gas

OK gas is getting expensive. My 1997 Integra GSR manual says premium gas. Can someone tell me if that is really true? This premium shit is $3.19 a gallon which is almost $30 a fill. That is an hour and a half of tutoring for me!!! Can't I just pump the cheap stuff instead? Man if I could walk to school I would but 20 miles is a bit far.

If the manual says you should use it, ideally you'd want to because the car can take advantage of the higher octane for better performance and usually better fuel economy as well. That said, if you use lower octane, the car will adjust and you won't hurt the cars internals or anything. I'd say give it a whirl and see if you notice any difference in mileage or if its liveable :)

On the other hand, people putting 91 octane into a car that requires 87 are doing nothing but pissing money away since the car can't take advantage of the higher octane.

I think you should stick to what is recommended. Higher performance engines (ie/ high reving, turbos, etc.) such as yours, require the higher octane to burn more efficiently. Just stick to whatever octane rating is suggested.
