why I'm here etc.

This is in answer to Syndromes's question about why I'm here since Canada sounds really cool, which it is.

- came down here during the .com boom to get rich and advance my career (I did not get rich, but I did further my experience by leaps and bounds but in a career I ultimately abandoned last year)
- thought it would be enriching to get a higher education in a different country and since I study media and western media are largely produced here, it seemed logical to study closer to the source
- I hate extreme weather. I am a weather wimp. All it does is rain in Vancouver and I hate it more than words can describe. Shoveling snow out of driveways also sucks balls. SF peninsula weather cannot be beat and it makes me very happy
- I get bored easily and Vancouver just did not provide the stimulation I needed. Whether it be nightlife, arts, social activism, you name it, it's bigger and more exciting here. San Franciscans have a certain energy that I love. Vancouver is more laid back and smaller in population, perhaps too much so for my liking.
- you can get stuff shipped from online purchases easily here. You have no idea what a pleasure that is

Now I'm going to repost something from Syndromes's blog again

Click to my comments and

A. First, recommend to me:
1. A movie:
2. A book:
3. A musical artist, song, or album:

B. Ask me three questions, no more, no less.
You may ask me anything you want, but I can decline to answer anything which makes me uncomfortable.

C. Copy and paste this in your blog.

"you can get stuff shipped from online purchases easily here" - haha that cracks me up :) That must suck in reality, but a funny point to use for living in another country :) Thanks for summarizing that though. I have issues with constantly rainy weather myself - unfortunately many of the cities that appeal to me (Portland, Seattle, Vancouver), all seem to share that trait :P

Anyhew, onto ze questions and such!

A)
1. License to Drive - For no particular reason other than it's one of those movies in the vein of Pretty In Pink and Breakfast Club and it cracks me up :) Also first movie I ever saw Heather Graham in ;)
2. Hrm. I haven't read it, but maybe "The Bonesetter's Daughter". Sorry, not a big reader outside of self-help stuff ;) haha
3. Going off of your musical interests, have you checked out the album "Play" by Squeeze? Squeeze can be a sorta hit or miss for me, but I love this album.

B)
1. Piggybacking on the canadian theme, if you could have the US implement one thing that Canada does/has that we don't, what would it be?
2. Person you most admire?
3. Thing you're most proud of having accomplished thus far in your life?

Thanks for the recommendations. Read Bonesetter's Daughter, it was great. Definitely need to look into License to Drive and Squeeze.

1. I'd implement the Canadian healthcare system including the 12 month mat leave
2. Dalai Lama - he lives a very simple and happy life and teaches by example (no hypocrisy or awful Christian preaching)
3. Moving to another country with 2 weeks notice and building a life in a place where I only started with 3 distant acquaintances.

Well I must warn you that most people probably hated License to Drive :) I should've said it was more like "Revenge of the nerds" than breakfast club though.

In any case, thanks for answering my questions :) I wish we had universal health care as well :/

1. A movie: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
2. A book: Microserfs (Dougie Coupland)
3. A musical artist, song, or album: The Postal Service

B. Ask me three questions, no more, no less.
1) What's smarter -- marzipan or a piece of chewed gum?
2) Edible condoms or edible underwear?
3) If you're under the gun holding J10 offsuit preflop, do you call/fold/raise?

thanks for the suggestions shaky
now answers:
1) What's smarter -- marzipan or a piece of chewed gum?

chewed gum because it has gone through tough times

2) Edible condoms or edible underwear?

I've never tasted either

3) If you're under the gun holding J10 offsuit preflop, do you call/fold/raise?

- I would call so long as no one had thrown in a huge raise, this would be especially so if I were a blind that round
- If the betting had gotten too big for me (preflop this would be rare), I'd just fold and not bother seeing the flop

You got #3 wrong. The correct answer is FOLD. "Under the Gun" means that you're directly to the left of the big blind...or first to act preflop. J10 offsuit is a group 3 hand at best...calling it under the gun gets you in trouble almost all the time. Your only hope of making a hand with that is a straight. Any pair and you're almost surely out kicked.

That's one of those questions that you ask people to see if they actually are decent poker players. Ask the best poker player you know and see if he gets that question right :)
