teens2

And an update on that summer program I'm working for. Well the last two days have started with stern lectures from the program directors about unacceptable behavior. The latest incident involved three of the boys wrestling in one of the classrooms and damaging some computer equipment, which they'll have to pay for. I'm thinking they need to do a tougher screening process. Teens who think that wrestling and breaking shit, shouting to one another outside administration offices, and taking naps during class right in front of my face are not college ready.

omg that is crazy. i think different directors have different theories about who to accept. i think some of them want to take some students that they can feel really good about if they like turn them around or whatever, but i think that can really hurt the mood of the program as a whole... do they ever kick people out? i think kicking students out is very valuable!!

Oh yeah, one boy who was making mean spirited remarks to everyone and sitting with his back to the teacher got kicked out. They first make them sign a behavior contract, this boy refused to so he was gone and it made things much better.

oh, once this boy got kicked out for threatening a staff member with an iron. yeah he was in the dorms cuz he was visiting from another program--meaning he was supposed to be like one of that program's top students. so that was nuts. thought you'd appreciate that story.

holy shit. are you talking about a hot iron, that you use to take wrinkles out of clothes? that could be a criminal offense if it is. yes, totally appreciate the story.
